Lleida, the Seu made of wine

The Denomination of Origin Costers del Segre is a mosaic made up of seven territories, distributed along the entire basin of the Segre River and the Lleida Pyrenees, with the aim of grouping and giving its own entity to the viticulture of the province of Lleida.

We will start with a visit to the Gravera winery, a winery with ancestral vines, clay and chalk soils, and a long mountain range that protects its land. Here we will make the most historic visit, where we can visit the living museum, “El Vinyet”, 133 years old and with 24 historic grape varieties of the area, with views of the Avellanes Monastery. To all this is added the main visit to the vineyard and the cellar and finally the tasting of 3 of its iconic wines: The Pell blanc and claret from the plot “El Vinyet”, and the tint of “Les Pedrisses”, its own oil and something to eat with local products to accompany the taste.

Next, we will go to the Parador de Lleida, which is located a few meters from Carrer Major, in the historic center of the city, where we will stay on a half-board basis. The Parador is located in an old 17th century convent, the rooms are distributed around a beautiful three-story central cloister that gives access to the church, which has been converted into a restaurant. The interior Catalan cuisine manifests itself in all its expression with quality local products, updated traditional recipes, combined with excellent service.

Finally, we will make an exclusive visit with a private guide to the La Seu Vella de Lleida, where we will try to discover how the La Seu Vella is made of wine. We will locate the poppies, branches, grapes, harvest scenes and a long etc. of wine motifs that appear represented everywhere in the sculpture of the cathedral. The omnipresence of wine on an artistic scale shows how important the culture of wine was in the Middle Ages, both in the religious and economic spheres, since without the taxes levied on wine it would not have been possible to build the La Seu Vella. We will end this visit with a wine tasting from La Gravera at the Parador.
